Starting situation before LeanwareSCM

In the starting situation, the challenge was the availability of spare parts to mechanics and the efficiency of service repairs. At the same time, there were old, overage items and unsold goods at the warehouse. This made stock turnover slow. Purchasing was based on gut feelings and wasn’t based on actual information.

Goals

The goals of the cooperation were the improvement of service degree, correcting the stock’s age structure and raising stock turnover.

Results

The results achieved were good. Mechanics are now happy as there are spare parts available. The mechanics’ feedback about missing parts has now stopped. Better spare parts availability has supported the company’s sales. VDL has received praise from large customers and has raised its profile among competition.

Better service degree

The availability of the central import warehouse increased by 4.7 percent over a period of 12 months. At the moment, the service degree is at the target level of 95%.

Improved stock age structure

VDL measures and monitors overage stock actively. The number of old, overage items in stock has decreased and at the same time the share of new spare parts has risen.

Higher stock turnover

Stock turnover has improved significantly and is currently at goal level. VDL’s warehouse now has more circulating goods and the amount of unsold goods has decreased. During the cooperation, spare part sales have increased by 30% and the purchasing and freight costs have stayed the same.

Easier puchasing and warehouse management

LeanwareSCM has provided calculation routines, indicators and monitoring for daily management. These tools make the purchaser’s work easier, and the right spare part is at the right place at the right time.
